Our first annual CHRISTMAS GATHERING at Murphy’s Inn was held on Saturday December 21, 2019. The spirit of the Christmas season was very much alive in this lively gathering of family and friends. An abundance of food, drink, laughter, conversation, live music and some dancing filled the inn. A great time was had by the many who could join us.
We look forward to our second annual CHRISTMAS GATHERING in 2020 and wish us all the best in the coming year!

The editor and owner of the Journal stopped by the inn with her daughter Katherine to meet with us for an article about us and our new inn. We are very happy with the final product and want to share it.
The Grand Opening was great fun with many folks stopping by to say hello and look around the inn. Lots of refreshments were available. We were especially pleased to welcome Sister Florence MacKenzie and Sister Alma MacLennan. They were the last two nuns to occupy this house when it was still a convent back in 2006. They had lots of memories to share. Some of our other visitors had memories to share as well. Memories of their childhood schooldays with the nuns who taught in Larry's River and Charlos Cove and memories of visits to this house when it was a convent. Lots of stories of local history and its residents.
Thank you to all who were able to make it to the opening and helped make it a success ! - Mary and Bob

Murphy’s Inn is housed in a classic American Four-Square wooden structure built about 1915. For fifty years (1955-2006) this house was occupied by the Sisters of the Congregation of Notre Dame and became the Mount Carmel Convent. Although a few short-term residents occupied the house since its construction, the Sisters were clearly the most prominent tenants.
We believe that we have been able to bring this beautiful house back to its original and intended elegance.
A Brief History of Ownership: Our current understanding is that prior to 1928 the house was owned by Benjamin and Mary Alice Gerrior (spelled Girior on deed). In December of 1928 they sold the house to Benjamin Avery, formally of Larry's River but then living in Cambridge, Massachusetts. His intent was to retire and move back home and live there. He never did get to live in it. We do know that he wanted another family member to move in with him but none were interested. It sat unoccupied for a many years.
In March of 1938 Benjamin Avery sold the house to William and Jennie Murphy. As far as we know, they did not live in the house either but it remained with the Murphy family of Larry's River.
William died in 1951 and in July of 1955 Jennie donated the house to the Sisters of the Congregation of Notre Dame as a residence for them while they taught at the local schools in Larry’s River and Charlos Cove. The sisters were also involved in numerous other activities in these communities. This house became the Mount Carmel Convent. They remained in this house until 2006. Locally it has been known as The Convent.
Becoming A Bed and Breakfast: In November of 2018 we purchased the house from the Murphy family. In honour of Jennie Murphy’s donation and the subsequent fifty years of service provided to Larry's River and Charlos Cove, we named our bed and breakfast Murphy's Inn.
A substantial renovation was undertaken to transform the house into a four-bedroom Bed and Breakfast. All guest rooms feature queen size beds, satellite flat screen TVs and complimentary free Wi-Fi. Our first-floor guest room has full private bath. On the second floor one guest-room has a full private bath and two guest-rooms have half-baths with access to full shower facilities on the same floor.
Rates include a full home style hot breakfast and free parking. We also have a small garage on-site with a selection of tools available to the traveling motorcyclist and bicyclist. Access to our scenic river provides the opportunity to use your canoe, kayak or rowboat.
