I am filled with immense pride and admiration for my son and his friends, who took the initiative and created something truly remarkable!

These young men have dedicated the last two years attempting to secure equipment or donations to start a hockey team at their school, which lacks the funding that other schools receive. They have tirelessly reached out to various businesses, sending emails and making phone calls. Their relentless efforts have finally paid off, and they are now going above and beyond by finding ways to give back and support those who have stepped forward to assist them.

The collaboration , creativity, co-creation, and collective efforts of these young men, with NEXT SHIFT Hockey, Ottawa Technical Secondary School and the students from other classes is nothing short of AMAZING!

This goes beyond merely starting a hockey team! This initiative is bringing the community together and showing these young adults that anything is achievable when their determination and commitment outweigh their doubts, fears and challenges. They are also being taught that they are the creator of their own lives, emphasizing solutions rather than obstacles! Adapting and pivoting while still maintaining their focus on their goals!

Their journey has been a testament to the power of perseverance and the impact of a positive mindset. As they continue to break barriers and defy expectations, these young leaders are not only shaping their own futures but also inspiring others to dream bigger and strive for greatness. The skills they have developed—resilience, teamwork, and leadership—will serve them well in every endeavor they undertake. This experience has not only enriched their lives but has also strengthened the bonds within their community, proving that when individuals come together with a shared purpose, extraordinary things can happen.

My heart is overflowing with gratitude and excitement for these students and all those that made this possible!

The Navan Grads would like to invite you to join them in honouring the life of their late owner and CCHL Chairman of the Board, Steve Barban on March 14th. Admission to the game will be free.

For nearly 20 years, Steve’s support for the Grads went far beyond the rink. His love for the team and his commitment to helping young athletes thrive defined his legacy. The Ottawa Police Service is asking for help to identify the driver and/or occupants of this vehicle after they struck a pedestrian and failed to remain.

This incident occurred on January 19, 2025, at approximately 4:40 p.m. in Orleans on Clendenan Crescent near Glandriel Crescent.

A white Volkswagen Jetta (model year 2011-2018) with dark tint and possible aftermarket mudflaps or fender modifications was involved. The vehicle's Ontario licence plate includes the letters “BVL” or “BLV.”

Witnesses report that at least two male occupants were inside the vehicle at the time of the collision and were seen laughing at the pedestrian after striking her before fleeing the scene. There is reason to believe it may have been a random but deliberate act.

How you can help:

Anyone who witnessed the incident, has dashcam or security footage from the area, or has noticed a similar vehicle to come forward.

Additionally, if anyone has experienced a similar unreported incident, they are urged to contact investigators.
