Hillsdale House Inn

Hillsdale House Inn Hillsdale House Inn is a 13 room Historic Bed & Breakfast Inn located in Annapolis Royal, Nova Scotia, Canada, and only minutes from the Bay of Fundy.

Join us at one of Annapolis Royal’s most iconic heritage properties. Hillsdale House Inn was built in 1859 by Susan Forbes Foster. She operated Hillsdale House as a first-rate inn, and for more than 150 years the inn has been accommodating visitors to Annapolis Royal. Open from May until October, the inn offers 13 well-appointed guestrooms combining a refreshing mix of Victorian charm, timeless ho

spitality and many of the comforts of modern lifestyle. Our goal is to weave the intimacy of a bed & breakfast inn with the privacy and conveniences of a small hotel; the best of both worlds. Imagine relaxing after your full country breakfast in the Foster or Perkins Parlour, on the covered or open veranda, or in the gardens. Oh yes, you won’t need to stop for lunch! We are conveniently located within the historic Town of Annapolis Royal (a federally designated National Historic District) and a short drive from the world renowned Bay of Fundy. The inn sits on a 12 acre estate, with manicured lawns, stately trees and numerous gardens. Stay with us while you tour the area and explore the nearby Annapolis Royal Historic Gardens, Fort Anne and Port Royal National Historic Sites, and numerous other attractions. We are also a short walk from local restaurants, shops, King’s Theatre and galleries exhibiting prominent local artists and artisans. Come and experience the stay of a lifetime where history and hospitality make you feel relaxed and comfortable. We want you to leave with indelible images of the way life was once lived. Hillsdale House Inn is also a magical wedding venue, and we cater to private receptions, business meetings and events.

WHAT’S NEW FOR 2021 at Fort Anne National Historic Site of Canada:

FORT ANNE'S OFFICERS' QUARTERS MUSEUM RE-OPENS this summer! – Relax and let us guide you around Canada’s oldest National Historic Site and inspire and enrich you with stories of the past. This was a meeting place for cultures and a focal point for historic power struggles and treaty negotiations. Explore the interactive exhibit in the Officers’ Quarters to learn more about the stories of struggle and survival and the Peace and Friendship treaties signed with the Mi’kmaq.

TWO GUIDED TOURS available during the day this summer: Stroll the ramparts of the star-shaped earthwork fortifications with your personal guide and learn why Fort Anne is a classic example of a Vauban Fort. If you’re already familiar with the fortification story, our newest guided tour shares the story of the Acadian people in the area – a history retold starting with the arrival of the first French families in Port-Royal circa 1636, to the deportation of the Acadians in 1755. Both tours are approximately 45 minutes long and offered upon request and staff availability. Tour Fees are $4.90/adult, $1.90/youth.
