Coming to Annapolis Royal to see the historic sights in the winter can be a bit of a challenge as so many of our fine places either limit their hours or close down. However, there are wonderful trails that can be explored. This is along the French Basin trail which is just a 5 minute walk from our front door. Along this trail you can see birch trees as well as ducks and muskrat. At a certain point in the trail, you will be between the fresh water of the Ducks Unlimited basin as well as the estuary of the Annapolis River. This trail never disappoints even during a rain shower.

Halloween in Annapolis Royal did not disappoint. All of the kids who dropped by were very polite and there were some great home made costumes.
PS I know the Master Chief was not home made but it was super cool.

Happy Halloween!!!

Ever since moving to Annapolis Royal we have been embraced by the community and invited to get involved with local traditions and community celebrations.

One of our favorite things is the real joy in having a fun and "Spirited" night on Halloween.

We close the Inn in anticipation to the hundreds of little goulies and goblins that travel from the rural areas to the safe wide sidewalks and generous folk that make up our little town.

We may only have 500 people living in Annapolis but it seems like just that many children come out and laugh and scream and smile for hours.

Lesley looks so forward to meeting each and everyone.

She brings a chair and sits among the skeletons as the door bell would never stop ringing.

This morning at 11:30am it started with the local daycare stopping by with all the kids laughing and talking.

She was so pleased to be there to greet them.

I tell you this is a heck of a town.

Fall colours and the cooler weather are a recipe for enjoying the outdoors. But by far our favorite part is hosting the hundreds of children that flock to the historic streets of Annapoilis Royal. We buy 10 big bags of candy and close the Inn on Halloween night to focus on handing out treats to all the adorable tricksters. I am so proud of our community opening it's arms to all of the local families who bring their monsters and goulies to walk the sidewalks of our little town in safety. The police drive slowly up and down the lanes ensuring a safe and peaceful night for all.

What a great way to show community spirit. (pun intended) Every Halloween so far has been a fun joyous and spooky night.

We are getting started on the decor for the inn with these two characters an plenty more to come.

Never an idol minute for Kevin as a new project is always in the works. 14x14 pergola with arched trellis comes together. Two weeks of building a base to the posts and finally the cross members and arched brackets.

The Inn had a particularly challenging space that was unpolished and scruffy and recent attempts at making it look better have been less than we had hoped.

I am pleased to say the hard work has given us a nice base to add ivy and hanging baskets to anchor this side of inn.

We plan to lay a cobblestone or brick floor and maybe an adorable little bistro set to allow our guests a charming space to relax and read a book or have a coffee and connect.

The pergola is also placed to frame the new garden shed in the final stages of finishing. Fresh grass and some purpose placed shrubs should finish the project.

Big Day!!!

May long weekend is upon us and that means our very popular porch is ready for guests to enjoy. This is by far the most used room in the house. Built as a sleeping porch in 1890 as a way to escape the heat of the hot summer nights and also very encouraged by the doctors of the day for curing all that ails you.

We love hearing the laughter and conversations late into the night in the screened in space.

Let the summer officially begin.
