Whether it be a vacation or a staycation, B & Bs are an excellent choice to the regular accommodations available in rural Manitoba. They offer all the comforts of home and include breakfast! The Glass Lake B & B is no exception – the owners welcome you in to enjoy their well-appointed home and they specialize in providing a two-course, gourmet brunch at your convenience.
Typically, guests are welcomed to a well-laid and decorative table featuring requested condiments. Then the magic happens! Piping hot, fresh ground, Manitoba roasted Black Pearl coffee (or freshly brewed tea!) is served. While plating is being completed casual conversation ensues with other guests and the hosts. Glass Lake B & B starts with a fruit course – it may feature a fresh fruit salad comprised of kiwi, mango, pineapple and other produce or it may be a decadent Poached Pear! While presentation is of utmost importance, it is the layers of flavour created with this latter gourmet starter that sets an exceptionally high bar. A cored Bartlett pear is simmered in a bath of aromatic cinnamon infusing a sweetness and spiciness. For plating, the simmered core is replaced and served on a ‘bed’ of thick, rich, slightly tangy, and creamy Skyr which is topped with an in-house created sauce made from tart, slightly sweetened, and succulent Haskaps fresh from the garden at this B & B. The final pièce de résistance is the generous drizzle of a blend of slightly sweetened and aromatic dark chocolate and creamy, nutty, and oh-so-deliciously roasted sesame seeds better known as Tahini sauce! The fusion of flavours mingles and tingle creating a flavour explosion with each bite of this epicurean ambrosia!
A featured savoury course demonstrates the versatility of using eggs – the ever-popular omelette. Two well-beaten, farm-fresh eggs form the base for this culinary delight. Cooked low and slow, this gently browned half-moon’s interior remains fluffy and soft. It is generously stuffed with wilted and iron-rich spinach leaves, crumbled curds of tangy and salty Feta, and in-house preserved. mildly spiced Salsa featuring ingredients from this B & B’s garden! Plated with crispy bacon featuring notes of smoke and saltiness, and a fair-sized tendril of parsley, this meal is completed with thick slices of an egg-rich, homemade bread, seasoned with a savoury blend of seeds and herbs, and toasted to a golden brown. Truly, a hearty and exceptional start to the day.
