Welcome to Fox Lake Resort & Spanish River Outfitters
If you are looking for the ultimate getaway for relaxation or a vacation full of adventure, take a look at what our ‘diamond in the rough’ has to offer. Fox Lake Resort is located deep in the woods on Fox Lake, in Venturi Township, 86kms NW of Sudbury, Ontario off Highway 144. We are uniquely and completely off the ‘grid’, that is, we are not
connected to any form of hydroelectric system. It’s back to the basics out here; we have no televisions or computer hook ups to distract you from your true vacation setting, but offer comfortable cabins with all light fixtures, appliances & hot running water (in summer) fueled by propane and three piece bathrooms with shower and flush toilets. An area rich in history, the Fox Lake shore line has produced a sequence of archeological artifacts that date back to the earliest known occupation of approximately 7,670 years ago. It is believed that this area was used regularly by Aboriginal people as a camp for hunting, fishing, trapping & gathering while on journey to their tribal meeting places on the shores of Lake Huron to fish & trade. The surrounding wilderness continues to provide fish, game & wild berries for all who seek an adventure. Fox Lake is in close proximity to the Elbow on the Spanish River, which is well known for its historical significance as a transportation route. The Aboriginal people used the river for travel and trade, as did the voyageurs and fur traders who followed during the 18th century. The Spanish River valley served as a convenient route for the Canadian Pacific Railway (CPR) for its transcontinental line established in the 1880s. Today it continues to serve as a travel corridor for canoeists that follow along the path of this past heritage, with the help of Spanish River Outfitters. In the early 1900’s, Fox Lake area forests were harvested for their abundance of large white pine & hardwoods. A mill was erected at the north end of the lake. Bunk houses, a few cabins & stables were constructed near the mill to house the many loggers & mill workers during the summer months. Timbers were dragged to the lake by work horses and were then boomed to the mill for processing as rough lumber. The many roads and trails created during this time still exist and offer an array of adventures to hikers, ATVers, hunters, snowmobilers and nature enthusiasts alike. In the 1940s, cabins were constructed on the existing site. The Fox Lake Hunting & Fishing Lodge was established in the mid to late 1950s where the owners offered housekeeping cabins, boats, motors and bait. Presently, Fox Lake Resort offers rustic cabin accommodations in a natural wilderness setting surrounded by the rugged beauty of the Canadian Shield overlooking Fox Lake. We also offer lake front camping sites suited for tents or trailers. Totally accessible by gravel road, Fox Lake Resort welcomes couples, families and groups and we are pet friendly! During your stay at the Fox Lake Resort, enjoy a sandy beach and a wood fired hot tub & sauna. For the angler at heart, lake trout, brook trout or bass are plentiful in our 11km/7 mile long spring fed lake. For the adventurists, bring your ATV or hike and explore the many trails in the area with access to many more creeks and lakes, as well as the Spanish River.
