Been a bit since posting, but at last, here's the list of events you can find us at this year (updated as the year goes on, since most of the late-fall events aren't yet booking).
We kick the year off with Gryphcon at the University of Guelph, April 4-6!
Then the Halton Hills Fanfest at Georgetown Public Library, on April 12th!
We set up our first full-booth Renfaire of the year with Wentworth Medieval Faire on May 24 and 25, our first time there.
Then we return to Robin in the Hood Medieval Festival on June 7.
For July we have Fergus Medieval Faire on July 26,
then we'll ply our nautical wares at The Ontario Pirate Festival from August 2-4!
Applications aren't out yet, but Oxford Renaissance Festival this year is September 26-28.

Now that the events have been mostly confirmed- update on that soon!- for the upcoming season, it’s back to work with stocking up on stock.

Well, the horrible cold won, because Maker Human has had to bow *completely* out of an event for the first time ever. (Long story short, my voice is shot, and I have learned the hard way that the cold medicine I was using that actually worked to get me to sleep at night, wreaks *absolute* havoc with your stomach. And, when you're also so stuffed up that even the extra-strength decongestant fails to keep it up within 4-5 hours, nobody wants a colony of nose slugs or a leaking faucet sneaking into a ball either.) 🤧🤧🤧

With the theme announced and team planning for this year’s Masquerade by Moonlight event, it’s finally time to get started on the costumes! This year instead of Venetian Renaissance, the theme involves the ancient fae of Ireland. So time for some fancy suitably coloured/decorated brats and léines for our garb!

Despite not being able to show even an imitation of a medical degree, the dragon's advice has done the trick! After tumbling around the fairgrounds sucking up all the nutrients he could (and more than a few of our precious cookies) Gel has levelled up and almost doubled in size! "You should round things out with some minerals," the dragon advised. "Phosphorus, magnesium, other hard-to-pronounce things you find in rocks. "Listen close," the dragon gravely growled. "Fibre is very important, to both humans and dragonkind. A human who's not keeping regular is an annoyance, and a dragon without fibre is a natural disaster. You cubelings might be known for easily breaking everything and the kitchen sink down, but that doesn't mean you can't use some extra fibre. "Whatever vitamin C is, I know it's very important", the dragon said sagely. "Humans use it to keep their teeth in their heads. I bet it'll help you keep your corners nice and pointy. Cube Nutrition at Oxford Renaissance Festival, Part 3!

"First of all", the wise dragon said, "they've set up some rubes to play music on the stage right next to me. They're on and off the stage every hour, and the banner says they're salty as sea dogs, whatever that means. Salt is salt, right? Set up an ambush for intermission and you'll get all the sodium you need!"

Part 2!

The following morning, our cube (whose full name is Gel A. Tinous) wasted no time in finding an informed source at Oxford Renaissance Festival to advise him on his condition. Having learned from previous Whimsical Squid capers that dragons are all about enriching their hoards, he figured they might also know a thing or two about enriching diets. This one was as wise as she was intimidating! "It's all about the knights, kid!" she rumbled confidently. "Once you peel the shells off, they're packed full of protein and calcium. I recommend flambé, but I guess you'd do better with fondue. Now pay attention, I've seen some other good nutrient sources around the grounds..."

Abby made a great racket this morning in her tank, and out of her secret cave came a bunch of balloons, streamers, tiny party hats, and a feast of grub pie and fruit paste and silkworms and crickets and salad. And goodness, SIX reptile hammocks too? And wait a minute, why is there a lizard on the windowsill carrying a jumbo cricket with a bow on it?... 🤔 Unfortunately because of isolation due to COVID, her big party had to be cancelled ("But Moooommmmm! I even invited the 5-LINED SKINK! HE'S ENDANGERED, DON'T YOU KNOW?!?!?") and she's terribly dejected now. But all the same, Happy World Lizard Day and Happy 4th birthday to Abby! (P.S.- After faire season, we have big plans for plush with our favourite lizards! 😉)

The sun is out, the birds are singing up a storm, and the mercury finally hit 20+ celcius! I can finally wear my newest creation, the lovely Hummingbirds-in-wisteria 50's style shirtdress I finished a few days ago. 😘 AND I can also break in the American Duchess Oxfords I got back in November now that the ground is finally nice enough to wear them outside!

Hello Squidizens! A day spent learning how to work the embroidery machine, starting with some small plush eyes! (This eventually became a somewhat gimpy narwhal....) Hopefully soon maker-human will be up to digitizing her own!

Good stormy afternoon, squidizens! This is the beginning of a major winter storm coming our way for the next two days. So, any orders placed between now and Wednesday will be delayed a few days for shipping out as the roads and sidewalks will be an impassable mess! (All custom orders and shop orders placed last week and on the weekend have now been shipped- this only applies to new ones!)
