Hey folks, it’s fffffreezing out and we have 2 picket lines in Moose Jaw. The Heritage Inn is still locked out and has been since Sept. 2023. Those brave and mighty workers need our support and encouragement!

And Postal Workers are on strike and it’s been 2 weeks today of 24 hour picketing Monday to Friday.

Please show both sets of workers support by honking as you go by (make a trip by to see them), walk with them if you can, take some food or hot drinks, gift cards for food/drinks when they need them, ask them what they need. It’s these small kindnesses that lift their spirits and show them we care about them as important parts of our community and people who are fighting for fair working conditions.

Hi there,
CUPW will be on Day 11 of our strike tomorrow. There is no sign of major progress in negotiations at the moment . Moose Jaw Local will be on walking the line at 63 Ross street all week , we’d love it if anyone who is able would come join us!

The Canadian Union of Postal Workers is on a FULL Strike Country wide effective 12:01am November 15th, 2024. Moose Jaw Local 781 will be picketing at 63 Ross st. Please get on out & support them in the struggle.

UFCW Canada Local 1400 mourns the tragic loss of a worker who died in a preventable incident at Heritage Inn in Saskatoon. This senseless death highlights the need for accountability, respect, and safety in the workplace.

The union calls on Heritage Inn to take responsibility for this loss and provide proper support to the grieving family. As UFCW 1400 President Lucia Flack Figueiredo stated, "This worker was a dedicated, loving mother who came to Canada to pursue her dreams. She deserved a safe workplace and for her employer to treat her loved ones with dignity and compassion."

Despite the severity of the incident, Heritage Inn has shown disgraceful behavior by failing to notify the worker's family or provide any support, even as they sought answers. It took ten days for management to respond, and the fatality was not reported to Occupational Health and Safety or the Saskatchewan Workers’ Compensation Board until weeks later.

UFCW 1400 stands firm with the family in their time of sorrow and demands justice. Workers at Heritage Inn deserve better—better training, better safety protocols, and an employer who respects their rights and dignity.

Today is day 300 on the Moose Jaw and Saskatoon Heritage Inn picket line, and on July 7 it will be over 10 months that the employer has locked out their employees.

There have been low times, the weather, always a factor in keeping spirits up, can play havoc with the line, the monotony of the daily picketing (especially when the hotel is dead), and disappointment in the owners actions have impacted our members and our union.

However, there have been a ton of celebrations... we celebrated a win at the labour board when the Heritage Inn was found guilty of bargaining in bad faith, we celebrated with each worker who, even when threatened by the loss of their job and to their immigration status, chose to leave the hotel and come walk with us, we celebrate when supporters, allies and friends join us on the picket line and we celebrate each and every one of the workers who started on the picket line with us on day one and still remain, committed to their new family.

To Celebrate Day 300... we are asking for everyone to share this post, the campaign, any action that will spread awareness to the ongoing picket line. In the few days you will see an increased campaign of awareness in your communities, help us spread the word.

We all thank you for the support on both lines, and remain in awe of the members who have been walking together since day 1.
