Happy Spring!

The early birds get the rooms! In late April into May, the island comes alive with hundreds of millions of birds passing overhead during Spring Migration. Birders know it's magic. We are happy to host bird enthusiasts on Pelee Island year over year and we are full up for the 3 weeks that the birds put on a show. 🐦🕊️🦅🐤🦢

The Inn is fully booked with first availability on Monday May 19. Book now and you might still catch a slow poke, yellow-bellied sapsucker partying at Fish Point on a lay-over, extended island stay!

Blame Canada!

It's true. We're diabolical drug running, financial wizards that have outwitted our well armed, billionaire neighbour to the south to flood their country with illicit drugs and steal all their money 🤷‍♀️

Kick Donald Gump in the stones and vacation in Canada this summer 🌞 Whether you come alllllll the way south to Pelee Island to chuck rocks off the shore in his general direction or head to any of the other incredible destinations in 🇨🇦, vacationing at home is one small thing 🫵 can do if you are able to support our economy that is about to feel some pain.

Life is like a box of chocolates... You never know what you're gonna get.

Sometimes it's not chocolate at all.

Sometimes it's just orange p**p that wants to be chocolate.

Elbows (and chins) up Canada!

Since 1895.

Where the Inn stands today is not where these old houses always lived. The Inn is actually two farmhouses moved to the corner of East West and East Shore Rds. Though families occupied these houses at one point, the Inn has been a home away from home for visitors to Pelee Island for almost 100 years. The Inn has lived many lives, operated as Gillis Lodge, Mill Point Inn, The Tin Goose Inn, The Wandering Pheasant Inn and today, The Wandering Dog Inn.

Through all her many names, improvements and additions...time passes but this old Inn remains a simple Inn on a quiet island. The authentic qualities of life on Pelee that visitors come to enjoy if only for a coupla nights are the same today as they always have been.

We book pretty far out in advance, now is the time to plan your summer escape from the rat race!

Book online anytime at TheWanderingDogInn.com to book your stay. Email us directly at [email protected] with any questions👍

We're not fancy. We're not fussy.
We're not the biggest or the best.
We're not interested in how intelligent artificial intelligence is and forget to answer the phone most days.
There is no golf course nearby. No cutesie little downtown.
No one cares who you voted for or what your bumper sticker says.

We're a simple Inn on a quiet island. If it's less you're after, we have more of it.

Less noise. More moments.

More time to feel like a kid again. Ride your bike until dark. Swim until your fingers shrivel up and chase fireflies on your way to the campfire. Fall into bed with crickets and tree frogs singing outside your window. Wake up with the sun, and start again...

We book pretty far in advance so get in where you fit in! Book online now for preferred dates before they get snapped up! ⌛

Hunt 1 and Done!

This past week hunters joined us from the Sault, Stratford, Newtonville and Kingsville to participate in the first of three main hunts on Pelee Island.

The dogs got to work, the hunters got their limits and the weather held up it's end of the bargain ☀️ 🍂

Pelee Island Annual Fall Pheasant Hunts continue for the next coupla weeks. We only accommodate hunters during this time. To learn more about hunting on Pelee Island visit pelee.org

Our t-shirts got a little attention this year!

Thanks to Jeff Denomme of Haunted Zoo for creating original characters for our merch! Three species at risk that are actually pretty common on our property are featured. T-shirts with the paratrooper eastern fox snake that commonly drops from a tree branch or eavestrough, the slightly p*issy prickly pear cactus, and the cute as a button barn swallow donning a hard hat for their endless hours of homebuilding have be snapped up with $2 of every purchase being donated to Nature Conservancy Canada.

Today we made a modest donation of $244 to NCC.
It's not a lot, but it's better than a kick in the teeth and it's an easy way we can show our appreciation for this organization that does such good work on Pelee Island.

T-shirts are fun! Thanks for your support and wear them with pride y'all 🐍🌵🐦

Our Story

“Not All Who Wander Are Lost”

The Inn has lived many lives and is steeped in history but its name is not a part of its heritage. I wish we could say there was some historic significance to the new name… but really, there isn’t!

We came to Pelee Island in 2009 and our dog, Fred, quickly made friends with every human and dog he came across during his hours wandering the beach. Even to this day, whether Fred is hanging on the deck with Jill and John, playing with Finn, chasing Beamer, cowering in the shadow of a 5-pound Yorkie named Dexter or splashing with Molly and Marnie; he wanders… and he continues to make friends. Truth be told, that is pretty much what everyone does here…wanders.

Welcome to Pelee Island and welcome to the Wandering Dog Inn. Make yourself at home, make new friends, reconnect with old ones or simply…. WANDER!
